Responsible Recycling Practices for Electronics Recyclers (R2:2008) certification is a stringent set of requirements for electronics recyclers. This new standard is supported by major electronic OEM's, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), public interest groups, the US EPA, and US state and local governments. The standard includes requirements for environmental, worker health and safety, and security practices.
Sims Recycling Solutions plants operate to R2:2008 standards. We are in the process of having all plants in North America R2:2008 certified.

In October 2010, Sims Metal Management was recognized as a top performer by the Investor Group on Climate Change for Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI). The CDLI is an important global survey that ranks the transparency of companies as they report and manage carbon emissions. It reflects best practices in terms of corporate governance in measuring greenhouse gas emissions. Sims' award winning safety program is visible to all who enter the plant, with extensive use of safety vests, safety glasses, steel toed shoes, face shields, and clearly defined safe walkways. Sims takes responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of employees, contractors and visitors and works to foster a positive and balanced working environment.
To meet the specific challenges of recycling electronics, Sims Recycling Solutions operates processing lines with enclosed conveyors and processing rooms with extensive uptakes to capture and contain hazardous particulates. Each shredding system has an independent dust collection system equipped with HEPA filters designed to maintain a safe and healthy workplace for the protection of our employees and our environment.

Sims' pollution liability insurance limit is above the industry average and reflects our high business and environmental standards.

Improper and careless handling of hard drives containing private and sensitive information can be a devastating liability to companies operating in today's electronic age. Sims Recycling Solutions' cyber security insurance covers legal liability arising from the theft and fraudulent use of personally identifiable information.
