Sims Recycling Solutions is committed to providing the most sustainable solutions for all your
e-recycling needs. As the leader in environmentally responsible management of end-of-life electronics, our processes have been proven to serve and protect the communities in which we operate.
1. Why e-recycling?
Obsolete electronics are the fastest growing component of the global waste stream. End-of-life electronics can contain lead, mercury, chromium, nickel and zinc. As the world's largest recycler of electronics, we are in a unique position to help.
Your electronic products are made from valuable resources such as precious metals, plastics and glass, all of which can be used to create new products. E-recycling conserves our natural resources and avoids air and water pollution, as well as gas emissions that are caused by manufacturing new products.
2. What is your resident collection policy?
In compliance with IL Act 095-0959, our Illinois facilities will only collect CED's and EED's at our daily drop off locations. See question 4.
3. What does IL Public Act 095-0959 state?
IL Public Act 095-0959 (effective January 1, 2012) establishes a statewide system for recycling and/or reusing electronics discarded from residences by requiring electronic manufacturers to participate in the management of discarded and unwanted electronic devices (CED's and EED's). The law makes electronics manufacturers responsible for the cost of recycling millions of pounds of residential electronic waste every year. The law does not cover e-waste generated in non-residential sectors.
The full text of the law and other information pertaining to the implementation of he law can be found on the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (ILEPA) website.
4. What are (CED's) and (EED's)?

(EED): Eligible Electronic Devices: Cables, Cell Phones / PDAs, Zip Drives,MP3 Players
5. Are there a maximum number of items allowed to bring in?

6. During take-back events, is there a charge or fee for collecting and recycling my electronics?
Residents will be allowed to drop off up to 10 items from the CED & EED list free of charge.
7. If I do not live in Illinois, can I drop off my items, free of charge?
Only Illinois residents are exempt from charges associated with the recycling of their CED's and EED's.
8. What happens to my electronics after I drop them off?
When your electronics are in our facilities they are sorted to determine the proper processing protocols. Equipment is then de-manufactured and recycled using the latest and most efficient recycling technology available. Hazardous components are handled under strict environmental guidelines and procedures to ensure environmental responsibility.
