IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) Priorities

Traditionally, IT directors have viewed asset management as lifecycle management of hardware and software within an organization.  In recent years, because of environmental, compliance, and data security concerns, the concept of IT asset management has been expanded to include final IT asset disposition, with clearly defined processes and documentation of PC reuse and recycling beyond the walls of the organization.

The primary areas of concern for most asset managers when thinking about final IT asset disposal are:

• Will my IT assets be securely handled, to ensure privacy and regulatory compliance?
• Data Security - Are asset handling processes secure and clearly defined by my vendor?
• Is environmental responsibility a driving force with my vendor? Does the use of partners compromise my vendor's accountability?
• Does my ITAD vendor have the recycling expertise and equipment to extract maximum value from my IT assets, allowing my company to benefit financially from the IT disposal process?
• Brand Protection - When assets leave my facility, am I confident that the company managing my assets will protect my data and my corporate reputation and brand?
